Fashion kills !!!!

What is the use of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?   Droughts all over have increased, sea level is rising, erratic rainfall patterns all over the globe and at the same time there is high drinking water scarcity , temperature is rising at a speed higher than ever, many plants and animals are on the verge of extinction, floods and flash floods have become more common, cyclones are getting stronger and unpredictable than ever, lightning incidences have gone high, pattern of seasons is changing unusually, permafrost is melting at an alarmingly high rate, drinking water is being over-polluted, soil health is declining and still our needs are not done yet. There is a large divide(social, economic, digital, health access, education access, etc.) between the 1st and 3rd world countries which are getting exploited and wasted for the need, greed and comfort of 1st world countries.   Anthropogenic activities have altered all t...

Does it matter?

Recently, Indian team lost in the t20 world cup and got out in a way nobody had predicted. Similar to that it lost to New Zealand in the WTC final. Similar results had followed in the last ODI world cup. Similar pattern followed with our teams in recently concluded olympics-2021. We lost more than we won . The performance of our athletes was not on expected lines given the time and effort they might have put in and the kind of stuff that's available these days. The coaching , guidance, fitness routines are all available these days to most of the athletes who are at least playing at the top level, representing the country. Though winning and losing are parts of the same game but the attitude of our cricketers after losing was like :      'it was just one off game we didn't perform', 'we tried our best', 'we're still the 2nd champions',' we lost only in the final stage so we should be proud of our efforts' . Their statements smell of complacenc...

Alone or lonely ?

Most of the times when we listen to the two words we tend to equate them to one and the same. In actual, they are different and we need to understand why they are different, how we get into such states what connects them and what ,if at all, we need to correct. What do the terms actually state? Alone- This signifies the person is not accompanied by others, either at his own will or after being left out or excluded from his social group. This might be a temporary state or it might be a permanent state of a person. Loneliness - It's a feeling, a state of mind. In this case people start feeling sad. Feeling of loneliness might continue throughout the life or in patches ,maybe almost everyday in some situations or the other.                                                                         ...

Religious places as units of ward self-development.

Since times immemorial temples, churches, gurudwaras , mosques and other religious sites have been patronized by kings, rich merchants, artisans and common people. In some rulers they went as a beacon of pride, in others a medium of transmitting religious knowledge. In some cases they were used as centres for prayers, dance, sacrifices, langars  in some others it was also used as a place which would act as local government with priests as village heads. Currently, most religious places have become places for religious rituals where people donate and they are mostly kept as trusts but many small temples are under direct control of priests . Some of the religious places do charity work but most others are confined to religious rituals, religious knowledge dissemination or kept and managed as heritage sites or open to all as places of tourist attractions. Considering the fact that India is dominated by h...

Ramayana - Ravana's navel.

Ram was desperately trying to kill Ravana but all his efforts were going in vain. He was losing hope and was exhausted, tired of hitting him perfectly with his arrows yet not being able to kill Ravana. At last, he was informed by Vibhishan that he had to aim at Ravan's navel. The moment he did it, Ravana was gone. It's a very vivid and lucid representation of highly important messasge in the form of story-telling. The message was made so clear without getting into a tougher spiritual form that could have been very difficult for people at that time to understand and incorporate in their lifestyle which even today most people would not try to understand as they are too busy and submerged in the externality of the message which might have not been intended to be told. Within ourselves, lives...

Chemical fertilizers

Chemical fertilisers are materials of synthetic origin containing mainly three macro nutrients-     Nitrogen(N), Phosphorus(P), Potassium(k). The desirable ratio for N-P-K is 4:2:1.                                                                         Bad? 1. Widespread use leads to imbalance in soil, eroding soil nature and quality, making it unfit to be used      for agricultural purposes in long run. 2. According to a study in Delhi based centre for science and environment, the use of fertilizers (that     ...
